More in 2024!

The New Year trend for 2024 is all about IN’s and OUT’s, what you want MORE of and what you want LESS of. Personally, I prefer to focus solely on what I DO want because I believe that maintaining this focus will naturally propel me away from the things I DON’T want or want LESS of.

I am doing things a bit differently this year and focusing on intentions over goals. If I’m honest the striving, perfectionist personality type that I am is struggling with this shift but it is something that has been needed for a while. The overarching intention being to take better care of myself. I have spent a lot of my life dreaming about and planning for the future, running towards it at full speed. Don’t get me wrong this has allowed me to achieve some great things but at times I’ve missed the moments along the way.  With the season of life I’m in right now I don’t want to miss these moments and I most certainly don’t want to burn myself out. As a small business owner with a young family the juggle is real but I’m committed to creating sustainable change for the benefit of myself, my family, my friends and the amazing community we are building with B.OK.

Here’s to 2024 and the year of MORE… 

1. MORE moments for myself.

For a long time I drew energy from being around others and to some extent still do but lately I have realised that I love solo time to recharge.

This year I am committing one night a week to carving out time for myself to enjoy some moments of mindfulness.  It’s about redirecting myself back towards the things I love like reading, being creative, journaling or listening to music in a bubble bath.

2. MORE mental and physical rest.

Resting has always been a challenge for me.  If I’m honest I find it almost impossible. I’m always rushing through a never ending to-do list and since becoming a Mum, have become a little too obsessed with the concept of peak productivity.

This year my focus is on building awareness to better identify the signs and take action before I end up exhausted, emotional, stressed and inevitably sick.

3. MORE experiencing new things.

I love the feeling that comes from learning a new skill or experiencing something for the first time. I have had many of these moments over the past year and it’s made me keen to keep it up both personally and professionally. Learning the art of calligraphy is at the top of the list.

4. MORE focus on process over outcome.

Often there is more joy in the journey than the final destination. This year is about directing my energy to enjoy the ride and celebrate the wins along the way. I think it’s also important to acknowledge that some activities can be enjoyed purely for what they are and with no outcome attached at all.

5. MORE connection with likeminded people.

Connection and collaboration has and always will be one of my favourite things. I draw inspiration from those around me and there is nothing I love more than bringing people together to create, learn, share and grow.

6. MORE listening.

Listening has got to be one of the most underrated skills there is. I’m naturally inquisitive by nature and genuinely enjoy learning more about people. Whilst I think it’s true that asking the right questions is really important, creating space for actively listening is more important. I’ve got my work cut out for me here! 

7. MORE acceptance.

Of myself and the various situations I will find myself in across the year. Sounds obvious but a gentle reminder that everything won’t always go the way I want it to and that’s ok.

8. MORE gratitude.

For all the good stuff, even in the tough times there will be a lot to be thankful for.  When things don’t go the way I’d hoped it’s a reminder to be thankful for the redirection and the opportunity to traverse a new path.

9. MORE fun in the everyday.

What’s it all worth if I’m not enjoying myself? 

10. MORE dreaming big.

My five-year-old son and his cute stories and big dreams have encouraged me to see the world through his eyes. It has inspired me to dream bigger, reach higher without first challenging what’s possible.

11. MORE protecting my boundaries.

In the words of NY Times best-selling author Mark Manson, ‘if it’s not a f**k yes, it’s a no!’.  Life is too short to do stuff you don’t want to.  This is not about being rude or disrespectful to others but about doing the things that really fill my cup and make me feel good. Less people pleasing and letting other people’s urgency become my emergency.

12. MORE deep breaths.

Full stop.

Prioristing time out for yourself can be really difficult because life is busy and there are so many distractions competing for our attention. It’s about starting small because it takes time to create sustainable change. Research shows that New Year’s resolutions normally fail just 12 days into the new year.  Why?  Because people go all in and try to change everything at once and then lose the motivation because it’s too hard and quite simply, unrealistic.
