How to holiday the healthy way

Say goodbye to the phrase ‘I need a holiday after my holiday’


We are all more conscious than ever of how we can reduce stress and maintain a healthy routine. To some degree right now this is harder than ever, with high amounts of digital consumption, the blurred lines between work and life balance and unprecedented travel limitations. 

Lately I have been asking myself, how can we merge a holiday escape, with staying healthy and giving back to our everyday routines?

In the past I have found myself saying ‘I need a holiday’ only minutes after I get back from a holiday and I think there is something backwards about this and I wanted to get to the bottom of it.

I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to many parts of the world, gone on holidays and explore on weekends away but only recently have I discovered retreats. The most recent being only 1 hour out of Sydney; The Billabong Retreat.

My experience of The Billabong Retreat and how it helped me relax, reset and bring back healthy habits.

Retreat surroundings

The Billabong Retreat is surrounded by beautiful bushland alongside a Billabong. Each of the Treehouse cabins includes a large bedroom and a beautiful balcony overlooking the billabong, making it the perfect setting for relaxation.

Personal Chef

One of my favourite things about going on a retreat is that you have meals prepared for you daily. At The Billabong Retreat the meals were plant-based and tasted incredible – who doesn’t enjoy a healthy meal prepared by a chef 3 times a day.

Digital Detox

Sometimes we just need to switch off. I loved the tranquility and seclusion that The Billabong Retreat offered, which also meant limited WIFI and phone signal, so I couldn’t even be tempted.


Everything is included

Whether you decide to part-take in all the activities or non at all, the schedule is there for you to do as you please and attend what you feel like. The Billabong Retreat has optional activities such as Yoga, Meditation, Movie night and more included in your stay. Not to mention the extra facilities like pool, fireplace etc.

Added Extras

So many other treatments and add-ons are available to help you relax even further. The Billabong Retreat has facials, massage, holistic therapies and so much more. 

Group and Corporate Bookings

With such an emphasis on healthy living it is the perfect place for personal and professional groups to do exactly that together. The Billabong Retreat have flexible booking options; for the whole retreat or smaller numbers you can ensure you are all on the same page and get the reset and break needed.


Stay for as little or as long as you like

At The Billabong Retreat they encourage people to stay for certain programs and timings but have flexible options for extended lengths of time too. Whether you need a week or more escape or a weekend away with some friends or family, you can design it to work for you.

Don’t think about a thing 

Retreats differ from a normal holiday in that you really do not have to think about a thing. You know when you are sitting by the pool then you realise it’s lunch time and you haven’t though about what you want to eat or where to go or made a booking – this doesn’t exist on a retreat. Or you have a free day and feel like doing activities but haven’t budgeted in the extra activities – it’s all included in a retreat.

By the end of my stay, I felt totally relaxed. I took time out of my busy schedule, I refreshed and I came back ready to make some of my retreat experiences a part of my everyday lifestyle. And in that moment realising, I don’t need another holiday….yet 😉
